Bend Outdoor Debris Burning to Close April 30: What Residents Need to Know
Residents in Bend are being reminded that outdoor debris burning will officially close at midnight on Thursday, April 30, according to Bend Fire & Rescue in coordination with the Central Oregon Fire Chiefs Association.
The seasonal restriction applies to all outdoor debris burning across the Bend area, marking the end of the permitted burn window as fire risk begins to rise with warmer, drier conditions. While some rural areas surrounding Bend will remain open for debris burning until the deadline, burning has long been prohibited within city limits under a City of Bend ordinance.
Backyard Fires Still Allowed—With Rules
Despite the closure of debris burning, backyard fires—including warming fires, campfires, and cooking fires—are generally allowed year-round within Bend and in nearby areas covered by Deschutes County Rural Fire Protection District #2. However, residents must strictly follow local burning regulations.
Officials warn that additional restrictions may be introduced during periods of high temperatures or increased wildfire danger, potentially limiting even recreational fires.
Stay Updated on Burn Restrictions
Authorities urge residents to always check current fire restrictions before lighting any fire. Updates are available via the Bend area burn information hotline at 541-322-6335 or through the city’s official website.
Fire Safety Remains a Priority
As Central Oregon transitions into fire season, officials emphasize the importance of responsible burning practices to prevent wildfires and protect the community. With changing weather conditions, adherence to local regulations is critical for maintaining public safety.
